Live game get there...

Played in our local 1/2 nl game last week and took down one of my largest pots in that game. I had played fairly tight most of the night except I get dealt AA, AA, JJ on three consecutive hands. I limp reraised the Aces in hand one and was called by a shortstack winning about a $150 pot. I raised to $25 after having 7-8 callers when I was the BB with AA. I got no callers and won a small pot. I found JJ in the same situation and made it $25 again getting 1 caller. Flop comes K 9 3 rainbow and I bet $55 and get smooth called. blank on turn and I check and he moves all in for $199. I know I'm going to fold, but I make it look like a struggle and show the J's. He shows 33 for a set. Good fold me!

The big hand came on the next orbit and I raise UTG+1 with 2h3h to $12 and get 7 callers (Yeah, I know). Flop comes Q94 with 1 heart and the BB leads for $15 in to about an $85 pot. I call hoping to get a draw of some sort on the turn, and everyone else calls. 5s hits on the turn and I am now open ended, but it puts 2 spades on board. BB bets $20 into a $200+ pot and again I call along with 5 others. 7 players see the river in a $350+ pot.

The river is the Ad and I now have the nuts...the SB leads out for $75 and 2 players fold and I tank it for a minute and push $259 all-in with everyone folding back to the BB. He thinks for a while and finally calls due to the fact there was $690 in the pot and he only has to call $184. 3.75/1. he only needs to make a correct call 1 out of 4.75 times or 21%.

He called with A9, and everyone gave me the bewildered look of, "how did you get there with that hand?"

My live play has been very good over the last 5 weeks as I have won almost $1800 at the casino and at the local 1/2 game. My online results have plummeted losing about $1500 in the worst run poker I have experienced online. I have moved back to 100nl and look to move back to 200nl when I win 10 buyins or so.

I do have some bonus money coming to me in the next few weeks with IronMan, rakeback and possibly cashing in some of my IronMan medals for cash. They would total almost $800 together...so I haven't lost near as much as it seems.

I never relized how big of boost to your bankroll it would be to be a sponsored pro for these online sites. 100% rakeback can amount to a large sum especially for the multi-tablers in the small to mid stakes games.

Happy New Year!!!

Learn to fold...

I am running way above epectation this month even though I started almost 5 buyins in the hole on my first session of the month. I'm ahead $191.85 playing 50nl over 2165 hands. I have avoided any big pots with marginal holdings and have laid down some TPTK and over pairs to the board. This is easy to say and do at 50nl... but the competition gets tougher as I move back up to 200nl. My win rate is over 8ptbb/100 none the less...I'd like to see an extended run of that!

Played a tourney today

Played a $3 rebuy tourney on full Tilt today. Finished 27th out of 1700+ but should have been much better. Flopped 2 pair and got most of my chips in against top pair and a open-ended straight draw. He got there on the turn and I blanked the river. All in on the next hand and I was out. Cashed for $60...also won another $58.85 at 50nl.

I remember why I dont play many tournaments. Played 6 hours for not much reward.

Colts Win!!!

Session this morning....winning $53.70.

Can you believe the best coach in the NFL would make blunder like going for a 4th and 2 on your own 28 under the circumstances of the game last night? I was totally shocked and felt as though it was about 30% that Manning and company score if the Pats punt. It is 5% if they get the first down. The only factor remaining is the chance of getting the first down.

If it is 50/50 then its definitely a punt situation...however I'm sure Belichick thought is 75/25 or greater which swings the math in favor of going for a first down. A first down results in (5%*25%) = 1.25% chance of the Colts winning....and failing on 4th down results in (.25*.80)=20%. 20%+1.25%<30% if they punt.

Belichick took the high variance route FTW and will be questioned for this call for the rest of the season. On paper it doesn't look so bad!

Go Colts!

Another win($72.15)...back ahead for the month.

Big NFL gamne tonight with the Colts hosting the Pats. Went to this game last year as Indy won. Alot at stake with these being the best teams in the AFC this year.

Bought tickets preseason for the Titans/Colts game...wish it woulda been this one!!! Go Colts!!!

Staking a player

I am staking a player in a local 1/2 nl game that plays every Thursday evening. He was stuck $600 but had good $400 win last week. He plays with make-up and agreement once he gets on the profitable side is 50/50 the first $2000 profit...30/70 the second $2000 and 20/80 the last $2000. Once hes ahead the $6000 our stake is over.

He will make $4000 and I will make $2000 with not much risk for me a none for him. Players are normally pretty bad as we watched a certain regular lose ~$1500...$100 at a time! I'll be playing in the game on occasion, but he will play much more than me. I'm probably good for 7-8 hours a month and he will be closer to 20.

Computer Crash

My laptop that I play 99% of my poker on crashed about a month ago. I took a week off before I bought a new one and haven't had the desire to play much because all of my data is still in the old unit. I've only played about 500 hands in the last 3 weeks and still don't have a great desire to play.

A few hands from last night a tonight...coolerville last night losing $218.55. I dropped to 50nl since I hadn't played in a while...

2009 Main Event

Unless Darvin Moon catches another good run of cards, I expect Joe Cada to win this years WSOP Main Event. The final table was crazy playing down to the final 2. The chip leader with 4 left busted 4th and the chip leader with 3 left busted 3rd. Suck-outs were everywhere and it seems these two were meant to play each other for the bracelet.

SInce July

September

August

July

I have moved up to 200nl as of the end of August. I got stuck about $800 early but have come back ahead almost $500 since the move up. I've played almost 10k hands at the level. I had a tough time adjusting to the PF aggression, but seem to have a good handle on most situations now. Rakeback for July was $317.16...August $222.75 and thru September 28...$213.32
With rakeback, my mid-year IronMan bonus and winnings...I'm ahead $2218.53 since July 1.

finally going the right direction...

Its been LONG TIME since my last post, and certainly no excuse being lazy. My record from March 1 - June 30 was loser on the poker side (694.34) but with rakeback $578.56, I only lose ($115.78). I also lost ($28.63) in tournament play March thru June.

Total losses come to ($144.41)...I didnt play as much as normal during this period as I only played 24423 hands during this time period. The month of July is diferent as I have been a very good winner and have played 12440 hands. I'm ahead $1262.10 plus rakeback of about $200 and a Ironaman bonus of $200. I have played exclusively at 100nl and think I'm about ready to take some shots at 200nl. Total winnings this month are almost $1700...with rakeback coming on Friday, it should eclipse that amount.

Be back soon!

Belterra Casino...

My family was away from home last night, and I was able to go with a buddy to Belterra Casino about an hour and 30 minutes north just across the Ohio river in Indiana. I had been there a few times, but only on Mondays when the room was very slow. It was crowded with 10-12 tables playing 1/2 NL and 2/4 limit. WE put our names on the NL list and went to the casino floor and played craps for 30 minutes or so. We both won about $50 as I had the dice for 20 minutes, scoring 5-6 points. I think there were 4-5 different shooters in our time at the table and I was was the only person to score. Beginners luck, as I have little experience playing craps.

FInally our names are called and they sit us at different tables across the room from each other. n the first 2 orbits I am dealt, KK twice and QQ once, winning at showdown twice for $150 profit or so. The other hand I 3-bet Pre-flop with KK from the button, and took down a small pot.

So I get into my first big confrontation with about $420 in front of me. Most of the table was sitting with less than $200 in front of them except for an older man who had just busted a younger lady with the A high flush toher K high flush. He had a little over $900 from what I could count.

Two players limped from early position, older man limps and a young kid raised to $12 from the hijack (only had $75 behind) and make the call with A8 hearts from the button knowing most everyone else will join the pot getting good odds to call. So we go 5-handed to flop of 8,9,10 with two hearts giving me a huge draw. Everyone checks to me and I bet $45 expecting to take down the pot...I didn't pay attention to the action behind me, I just watched the original raiser, who eventually folded after a taking a few minutes to make a decision. When I play live, I always cap my cards with a dollar chip to use as a tip if I win the hand, and I push my cards to the dealer with the $1 chip on them as his tip. He looks at me and says, "what's this?"

Me: "your tip...I won the pot."

Dealer: "so you are not mucking your cards?"

Me: "No, didn't I win the pot?"

Dealer: "No, this gentleman raised to $145, which makes it $100 for you to stay,"

Me: "OK, hang on second, I am not out!"

Here is where the fireworks start. The older gentleman with the big stack had made it $145 and was now majorly PO'd that the dealer had not mucked my cards. He makes about a 2 minute scene with the dealer and then wants the floor to come over and make an official decision. With him making this big of a scene, there is no way he has QJ for the nut straight. I immediately decide he has 10,9 for top two pair. Its possible he has 10,8 or maybe 6,7 for the ignorant end of a straight, but I commit myself to think he specifically has 10,9.

The floor comes over, listening to the dealer explanation and both of our explanations, eventually ruling that my hand is still live. Within 10 seconds of his decision, I shipped all my chips to the middle for $361...forcing the older gentleman to call another another $261. If he has 10,9...I am about a 51/49 underdog...which means if players only occasionally make a fold here...this a very profitable play.

For me, him to make a call against my raise is extremely unprofitable as the only hand he is ahead of is my hand at 51/49... I could easily have a set or a straight and he would be a major underdog to either of those situations...about 82/17 underdog to that range of hands. He is actually dead if I have 10,10.

While trying to decide whether to make his call, he pointed fingers and yells at the dealer and floorman for not making the proper decision...making me more certain he has 10,9 and It seemed like he was going to fold. He started stacking chips and asked for the 2-3 time for the total to call. Politely the dealer said $261.

He made the call after about 10 minutes of explaining, arguing, pointing, and accusing the staff of not taking care of good customers...lol. He flipped over 10,9 spades and the dealer rolled the Q of hearts on the turn...I tabled my A8 hearts as the river bricked and the old man says..."You did all that with a pair of 8's?"

Me: "Yeah...thats all I had...Nice call!"

Starting with a $300 stack...I cashed in $1221 for a nice 4 hours of play!

Eventually my buddy moved to our table and he wins a $300+ pot on our last hand vs the old man. My buddy won about $150 after losing AA vs QQ for a $300+ pot all-in PF when the Q hit the river.

Ice Storm 2009

AN ice storm shut down Danville, KY with an inch of ice and two inches of snow on top. Every tree had some damage after 24 hours of freezing rain. It was like a war zone and most everyone lost their electricity, and water as the pumping stations couldn't generate clean water. We are still under a boil water advisory, but luckily our power has been restored after 6 days without!

I did get to play online for an hour or so on Friday night as we spent the night with relatives in Harrodsburg.

Most of my time has been spent clearing trees and limbs from work and trying to keep our children entertained throughout this madness. Only getting to play on Friday caused me to miss IronMan status by one day.

Overall, January was a very good month for me...probably one of my best ever for cash game play. I will post my results in my next blog.

Results since last graph...

Cash: -326.75 (I have a few sessions on my desktop not included in the graph)
Tournaments: +94.55
Rakeback: +349.53

Total: 117.33

Current bankroll...$8992.08
I should clear my $325 Ironman bonus in the next week which boosts me over $9300...I'm going to mix in some 200nl while I'm over the $9000 threshold. I also should be able to achieve Ironman status this month for the first time ever.

poker = rollercaster

The last month has been a wild ride as I decided I was going to stay at 100nl for a while. I got off to a good start winning 4-5 buyins but went a downswing of about 16-17 buyins. After rakeback and bonuses, I was stuck about $900. SO I decided it was time to try something different. I watched a player on Stoxpoker megatable (16 tables) of 200nl Full Ring. AFter datamining the tables for a while, I actually played 10 tables at 200nl for about an hour and won $316. I have decided for the time being that Full RIng is the place for me until I have a good break from 6-max.

I have won another $446 from 100nl FR and cashed $60 in the IronMan gold freeroll on FullTilt. My bankroll is back around $9000 and I should clear my $325 end of the year bonus from FullTilt Ironman.

I have had a couple of bad beats to lower my winnings by quite a large amount...The following hand I'm not sure if I played this optimally because I know what my opponent has and I know he will never fold... I know he has a big pair (KK+) and should have I just check called the flop looking for the turn to brick before I move at the pot? I know I got my money in as a 70/30 fav, but I just hate losing big pots...especially at Full Ring!
